Customised Test Systems

We have worked with many manufacturing companies that have had bottlenecks during production when having to make checks or take measurements, this is where we can help them to become more efficient and profitable.

Manufacturing companies
This varies from multinationals to the “one man band”. The issue may be on a production line but can also be during installation or the annual checking of products.

Bottlenecks when checking or measuring
Checks, measurement and calibration are often the cause of a bottleneck in the production process. The results are sometimes measured using handheld meters and then these results are handwritten or typed into a computer.

Become more profitable
This may be achieved by increasing workload without adding additional staff or by gaining a market advantage. Efficiently checking and measuring during production can help you to win orders from customers that might otherwise go elsewhere. Having the results instantly available on your PC will instil confidence in customers and can help with your process of continuous improvement. If a component is drifting out of specification this can be detected before a failure occurs.

Some previous examples
illustrate how profitable this approach can be.

Case History 1 - High quality switch tester

Manual method
The client makes very high quality switches. Each switch underwent very detailed testing. The switching force in all directions was checked using an electronic force meter. The switching angle and full travel was then checked using a protractor. In each position the insulation, dielectric, and switch resistance was then tested. The results were then handwritten into a detailed report for the switch. Test time for the complete switch was approximately 20 minutes.

Banair system - using a BA765 system
The switch part number is selected from a list on a computer screen. The switch is then placed into a test jig and the test started. All tests are then carried out automatically and displayed on the screen. The finished results are then placed in a Microsoft Access database and a test report automatically printed. Test time for the complete switch is approximately 2 minutes.

Case History 2 - Aeronautical actuator tester

Manual method
The client makes aircraft actuators. Each actuator contains 10 coils. The resistance of each coil was measured individually and then an insulation test was carried out between each coil. All tests were carried out manually and the test time for the assembly was approximately 12 minutes. The results were then handwritten into a detailed report for the actuator.

Banair system - using a BA765 system
The actuator type number is selected from a list on a computer screen. The actuator is then placed into a test jig and the test started. All tests are then carried out automatically and displayed on the screen. The finished results are then placed in a Microsoft Access database and a test report automatically printed. Test time for the complete actuator is approximately 1 minute.

Case History 3 - In line motor tester

Previous method
The client makes high quality servomotors. All subassemblies were tested at the start of the production line and the finished motor at the end of the line. It is possible for the subassemblies to be damaged during the motor assembly process. If this happens then the fault would not be detected until final test. The motor would then have to be stripped down ad rebuilt. Time taken for rebuild 10 to 20 minutes depending on the fault.

Banair system
The client requested three inline test stations to check the motor after the fitting of each subassembly. If damage occurs this is now detected straight away. The damaged part can now be replaced before further build work takes place. Time for rebuild less than a minute.
